Help your designer help you
Before you begin looking for design company to help you imagine and build your web site, take the time to understand your goals. A good designer will help you define some areas before creating your site. They will want to know:
- Your business goals
- The purpose of your site
- What you want your customers to do at your site
- Will you need a shopping cart?
- Will you have a catalog of products that will change often?
- Who is your target market?
- Do you already have a Logo and color scheme?
- Have you checked out your competitors?
- Will you accept credit cards over the internet?
- How soon do you want your web site to go live?
- What sites you have visited recently that you really like
- What annoys YOU when visiting a site
- If you have a tight budget
REMEMBER! Don't be afraid to tell the designer what you want. If you need visuals, like paint or fabric swatches, use them. If you have a favorite site and want the same look and feel, share this as well. Communication is important. If you feel intimidated at all by the designer, or feel the communication isn't working, you should find a different designer. After all, this relationship will be continuous one and you will need to feel that professional friendship.
